M & M's

This is one of my favorite candies. A simple package, but inside there is a bunch of candy waiting for you. Isn’t that just like a man? A simple, unmistakable package, you look at the wrapping and know exactly what you are getting right?

Wrong.

That is what they want us to think, they are just this simple man with a great package. The description is right there and tells us all we need to know about the contents within. You can browse the candy aisle and know without a doubt that you are getting milk chocolate with a colored candy coating that melts in your mouth but not in your hands.

When you open the bag, the pieces come out and you find that marketing did a great job selling you something that was not true. All those colorful candy pieces won’t melt in your hands eventually turn into the colorful lies that he hands you. That leads me right back to that scripture Proverbs 26:28

It is sad what we will make ourselves believe when we really want something. When a man does something wrong and we catch him, he automatically gives us a colorful little lie. Just like candy, he feeds them to us one at a time. When we have the proof and confront him, he will turn it around, blame us for not getting along, and make us feel guilty. That just leads to more fights until eventually the colorful lies he was trying to feed us melt in his hands. Time after time, we play this out and take him another chance when he comes back around with a new package of those sweet little morsels telling us how sorry he is.

It is funny how I can sit back now and look at the ‘album’. I see all the pictures that show all the lies as colorful little pieces and I can literally sort them out in groups, each color represents a different phase of lies. Looking at them all spread out in front of me now, the candy does not look so sweet.

I realized that you could sit there and feel sorry for yourself looking at them and the lies each candy represents. You can cry as you swallow each one down and carry it with you. Or, you can pack up every piece, shove it back in the package, send it right back where it came from, and slam the proverbial door shut.

When you have made up your mind and you are at a loss for what to do next, go get your bible and get in the word of the only truth there is. God will never leave you nor forsake you. I have cried plenty of ‘why me’, ‘poor me’ and yes even the ‘why am I not good enough’ tears to know that if he wanted me he would have tried, yet he did not. Guess it just means they are not man enough to handle good women.

When His timing is right, when we are seeking His will, God will bless us. We can not take something that God did not give us, when we do we are opening ourselves up to those lies. "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" 2 Corinthians 12:9. When we take on things that He does not intend for us and we are heartbroken because it does not work out the way we wanted, God’s grace is all we need. When we admit we cannot do it alone, we confirm that God is all we need. The man He intends for us to have, will not need to sugar coat anything, he will be all we need.

There are not enough colorful candy morsels in that little brown bag to match the sweetness of God’s offering.
